BarokOpera Amsterdam creates productions shaped by its distinctive vision of authentic music theatre. Its performances are aimed at a broad audience of theatre and music lovers. Within the repertoire of 17th-, 18th- and 19th-century music theatre, early music is combined with a contemporary theatrical approach.
 

The musicians of BarokOpera Amsterdam perform on period instruments and are active in leading baroque and romantic orchestras. Young soloists and musicians from around the world are given the opportunity to perform in a music theatre production under the guidance of more experienced colleagues, as well as the conductor and stage director.
 

BarokOpera Amsterdam’s productions are inspired by the historical performance practice of Early Music. Thorough musicological and theatre-historical research into the works and the context in which they were created forms the basis for interpretations that are both historically informed and engaging for modern audiences. The result is a series of musical and theatrical productions that have toured the major Dutch theatres every year since 2000.
